Magical Girl MiNTY

A couple weeks ago (yes, that long ago... I had mid-terms all this week; don't judge me!) I attempted to style my wig with Sailor Moon-style buns. The results were a bit sloppy, as I had to rush at the last minute to finish them before I left, but I was pretty happy with them overall!
 Rundown:
Jsk: Dream of Lolita (AP replica)
Tights: Forever 21
Boots/blouse: Bodyline
Wig: Cosplaywigsusa
This pic was totally edited to hell and back :P Picnik is shutting down, so they were letting non-members try the premium options. I'm not sure how I feel about it; it looks a bit TOO plastic-y for me >.>

Between the giant-ass bow that came with my blouse, the bow-dazzled boots and the Sailor Moon-inspired buns, I really did feel like a magical girl! (even though 17 might be a bit late for that... almost 18! Yikes!) I'd love to cosplay a magical girl someday (my top choice would be the magical girl version of Charlotte from Madoka Magica!), but sometimes I feel like I'm getting too old for that... I've heard the best guideline is to stay within three or four years of the character you're cosplaying's age, but I've seen people cosplay 12-13 year old magical girls who were definitely in their late teens-early twenties and pull it off beautifully, so idk.

This year at Anime Boston, I'm actually cosplaying for the first time in forever! (my last one was a dramatically failed attempt at crossplaying Dark Mousy from DN Angel, except I was 13 and didn't know how to sew or use any sort of makeup so it looked TERRIBLE). I'm doing a group vocaloid cosplay with my two brohoes, Janel and Brianna. Janel is going to be Hatsune Miku, Brianna is going to be Kasane Teto, and I'm going to be the new Korean vocaloid, Seeu! I admit I've always had a soft spot for cat ears (though only when they're appropriate, of course!) so SeeU's costume design was especially adorable to me :) On Saturday I plan on wearing fairy Lolita (I should be getting my Milky Planet replica OP soon!) and hopefully will be attending or maybe even participating in the Lolita fashion show! Please look for me there!

Finally, speaking of cat ears, here's a video of the coolest thing ever:
I really want one when they come out, except... where the hell would you wear something like that? >.> The only place that comes to mind is a convention, but I don't attend conventions enough for it to be worth it... oh well!

That's it for now! Happy almost- Chinese New Years you guys!! :)

Style update- 1/13/2012 Bear-y cute!

I recently ordered a bear half-bonnet from the lovely Shelbycloud from her Etsy shop, Cutecandyclouds.
The bonnet is very well-made and adorable; definitely worth the price!! Unfortunately, I don't have too much to coordinate it with at the moment (I plan on purchasing the Little Bear Cafe skirt some time soon!), but I was so excited to wear it that I tried to scrape something up nonetheless:
Cardigan: F21
Boots: An*tai*na
Bonnet: Cutecandyclouds
Jsk: Bodyline
Socks: Sockdreams (they're super slouchy and long and the most comfortable things ever omggg)
Wig: Cosplaywigsusa

I really hope I can get Little Bear cafe before Valentines Day, because this year I'd LOVE to do a teddy-themed Valentines Day outfit this year! (last year the theme was more "chocolates and lace..." and this is why I spend Valentines Day alone :P ). I'm actually really excited for Valentines Day this year... last year, I seriously underestimated the amount of candy that goes on sale the day after, and since I was jobless and broke I couldn't afford too much. This year, since I have a job, I hope to get enough candy to last me at least until summer... which, now that I think about it, shouldn't actually be too much considering I've been trying not to eat like a little piggie recently (damn healthy eating and it's lack of delicious chocolate!)...
And now, here's some camwhore shots I took with a better view of the makeup/hair.
GRRR I'M A BEAR

I thought this almost looked ulzzang-esque, but I have a VERY sketchy definition of ulzzang so idk

My wig is kind of a mess, because I just recently found how to properly care for wigs (turns out throwing them on top of my guitar is not the best place and oh god why did I do that I'm such an idiot), but I was pretty happy with the makeup. I've been trying new styles ever since I picked up a gyaru magazine, Ranzuki, in NYC. Gyaru makeup is really so adorable; I love seeing it with Lolita!
Soooo that's it for today! Unfortunately I only have one style update queued, and I highly doubt I'll be able to do any this week due to mid-terms. I'll try to come up with something else to fill the void for the next week.
Thanks for reading! <3

Salem on New Years Day~

I'm a little late posting this, but I figured better late than never!
On January first, I went down to Salem with my good friends Rachel and Matti, along with Rachel's friend Rob. Unfortunately, a lot of stores were closed, but we still had fun! And I got to sport my newest wig ;)
The store that carried this lovely unicorn was closed, unfortunately. Such a shame! :(
There was a little Harry Potter-themed store selling butter beer. I did end up buying some, and while it was pretty good it wasn't as good as the kind my dad makes! (his recipe being based off of the recipe used at the Universal park)
Mirror shot! I intended to get more of the mirror but I didn't so here you go.
Rachel had some pretty rad leg warmers. Evidently though, lots of people liked them; she got so many compliments that day even though there weren't even that many people! So many, in fact, that nobody noticed the chick with the carousel dress and the Goth-tastic chick with her, which was a welcome change to say the least :P
Group shot! You can't really see it too well, but the house behind us was too charming! It had a little stone fence with a wrought iron gate and everything!
Also this is the picture where you can best see my outfit so here's a rundown:
Hairbow/jsk: Dream of Lolita (AP replica)
Blouse/boots: Bodyline
Rings: All offbrand
Tights: Offbrand/modded by me
Wig: Cosplaywigsusa
More pegasus/unicorn things! Unfortunately, these were out of my price range >.>
At the end of the day, our usual pizza place was closed so we ended up having to scope out another place. It was just standard diner food, but it was good nonetheless. I got pancakes and drank my butter beer :)
I always love going to Salem, even if I'm not a Gothic Lolita myself. I love the Goth aesthetic, and Salem is the perfect place to look at that sort of thing!
Well, that's it for now. I took a few outfit shots today, but I'd like to have another post for that in a little while, so I don't leave you guys hanging all month like I've been doing.
Bye~

La vie en rose

A little after Christmas, I finally took the plunge and dyed my hair pink:

Despite endless warnings from my mother in particular (she just really, really didn't want me to dye my hair at all), I'm pretty happy with the colour (though I might try something lighter next time; it's a bit too bright for my taste) and my hair isn't completely dead like so many people said it would be; although I won't deny that it has been damaged to some degree. I used special effects cupcake pink. Supposedly, that brand is supposed to glow under a black light, so hopefully I'll get to try that soon!

I also have to wear a wig to work now. For that, I use an amazing auburn wig from Cosplay Wigs USA, a company that I swear by for wigs! So far, nobody has been able to tell that it's a wig, despite the fact that it's much longer than my normal hair. That's probably a good thing, considering the whole point of wearing a wig is to make it look like my hair is natural. When I first got my wig I was cam-whoring around with it for a little, as I am prone to do with all of my new wigs, and ended up with this shot, which I like quite a lot:

Besides the money necessary to dye my hair, my family and friends were so generous and good to me this holiday season, especially given the tough economic times! I've always been bad at expressing gratitude when I receive something, but really this time I can't even come close to expressing how grateful I am to everyone.
Sorry my room's such a mess in this pic; I was still in the process of doing my post-Christmas clean-up >.>
And don't worry; that gun isn't real. That's an airsoft gun :P (which will hopefully help with my new year's resolution of being less of a shut-in an going outside more lol)

My biggest present isn't pictured, because I was using it to take this pic! My lovely parental units gave me an amazing new camera, AND it's pink! Expect more outfit shots and such in the future, now that I won't have to struggle with my other camera (which isn't even meant for taking pictures anyway) anymore~

For some reason I REALLY like playing around with the focus on this thing. I've just always thought that it looks so cool... I promise you though, I'll try to limit the amount of experimental shots I throw at you though :P

I hope you all had a lovely holiday and a great new year! I know I did! For me at least, 2012 is going to be a big year- big school trips, prom, college... I'm looking forward to all of it!
(ps... I know the gifs in this post may seem kind of random, but that's because I just really like them. Gifs don't need a rhyme or a reason!  )
