This years resolutions...

Following up on Miss Victoria Suzzane's recent post in which she posted her new year's resolutions, I'd like to share some of my goals this year! Here's a short list of what I hope to accomplish in 2011. :)
1.) Improve my lolita wardrobe
Right now, my wardrobe is just bleh. I've got the basics (bloomers, petticoat, a basic white off-brand blouse, a coat, a couple of lolita-specific boots and a couple of skirts and dresses) but really, I think I could do so much better. Since I plan on dying my hair pink in March, I'd love to get a lot more pink into my wardrobe (I ALWAYS seem to buy monochrone things, for some reason!) and hopefully get my first brand dress this year. I'm looking at a velveteen navy blue dress from BabySSB right now- it's beautiful and would work beautifully as a choir dress as well if I wore it without a petticoat! :)
2.) Learn to deco
I've always loved decoden- it's such a cool way to make otherwise drab things look awesome. I've recently been reading more of Miss Violet LeBeaux's blog, and looking at all the neat things she's deco'd has really inspired me. I plan on going to NYC this year, so hopefully I'll get a chance to check out Tokyo Rebel's deco supplies!
3.) Improve my appearance
There's a lot of things to do in this section- I need to overcome my fear of stuffing things in my eyes so I can get contacts, invest in a good curler so I can curl my hair more often, improve my often-dry skin, and I admit I could stand to lose a few pounds (I'm not overweight right now, but I'm at the larger end of the spectrum of what's considered healthy for my height). To make all this happen, I'll probably have to...
4.) Get a job!
As I've mentioned before, I've been trying to get a job for the longest time, but I haven't had any luck yet. Hopefully this year the economy will get better and I'll be able to find a job nearby, even in my boring almost business-less suburb!
5.) Miscellaneous
There's a lot of things I want to do this year that don't really require an explanation- get my license, improve my grades, improve my sewing skills, do at least one play/musical, take up dancing, join another choir, and actually update my blog more often!
6.) Write a book!
I've been working on an imagery essay for English lately (well, more like getting a leg up on it- we won't get the official grading rubric until after Christmas vacation!) about a unicorn in a forest. I find it's so fun to write about the things, and just writing this three-page snippet has inspired me so much. This year, I hope to write (not necessarily publish, though that would be awesome!) a full-length novel about a unicorn in the Hercynian Forest, a European wilderness known for it's supposed population of unicorns. I'd like to books to involve a young girl, spunky and wild, and for the book to have an enviornmental message. I already have a title for this whole project too- the same title as my essay, Guardian of the Hercynian Forest! You heard it first here, folks! :)
That's all for my new years resolutions. If anybody else has any resolutions they'd like to share, please do! I always love hearing about other people's goals and, if possible, helping them out with it! :)

Snow

It snowed in my area for the first time this season yesterday! :)
I admit I was getting a little nervous for a while there, as I live in New England and my cousins from Virginia way down south were saying they were getting snow storms and we hadn't gotten ANY snow yet! I couldn't help but worry, were we going to have a green Christmas this year?
Luckily, yesterday during school, I was taking my chemistry quiz when suddenly one of the kids in my class shouted out "IT'S SNOWING!" (there always is that kid, isn't there? :P) So, I looked outside, and lo and behold, small flakes were floating down from the sky!
I was so excited about the snow! We only got a tiny amount (less than an inch! ): ) But it was enough for me for now. Besides, there's supposed to be a snow storm on Thursday (conveniently just one day after my school's concert I'm supposed to sing in! Lucky!) so hopefully that'll make at least enough snow to have a snow ball fight, because I'm super mature like that.
To keep this post from getting too personal and to relate this to lolita, I have to say winter time is my favorite time for lolita fashion. It all just seems to work so well together-- the warm coats, the layers upon layers of petticoats and bloomers that are far too hot for the summer, all with a dusty coat of snow for a backdrop... lovely!
I myself am hopefully getting my first lolita coat for Christmas this year. I had a certain pink coat with faux fur and bows on it from bodyline on my Christmas list, but even if I don't get it for Christmas I plan on buying one with any money I earn from shoveling walkways, allowance, etc. I also plan on buying some lolita boots. I know those aren't supposed to be the best things ever for snowy places like where I live, but I honestly don't romp around in the snow that much anyways, and I have specific water-proof winter boots for that. I have my eye on a lovely coffee-coloured pair from Taobao, so hopefully I can work up the money to afford my first full winter lolita outfit this season! :)
I also hope to follow Victoria Suzzanne's tip on lolita-charm.blogspot.com and sew up a pair of flannel bloomers at some point. I'm definitely not a great seamstress at all, but I think I can whip up a simple pair of bloomers, especially with all the super-easy patterns I've found online. I just think having a pair of bloomers that actually fit me well and are warm and good for winter unlike my more summer-oriented, ill-fitting bodyline bloomers would be so nice. I'd like to make a pair of simple white ones, if I can find that colour of fleece. :)
So anyhow, if any of you guys are in winter yet I hope you're enjoying the season thus far! Don't freeze to death, drive safely, and happy holidays! :)

CHRISTMAS!!

It's almost Christmas! Only eight more days! :)
Christmas is my favorite holiday, rivaled only by Valentines Day (because who doesn't love sweets and hearts and teddy bears?), but even then, Christmas is still my favorite. I've been told that my excitement is a meer product of media hype, that I'm just being manipulated by the mass market. Perhaps that is so, but if it is, I honestly don't care. I enjoy giving presents (and okay, receiving them is fun too :) ) and seeing the smile on the recipients face and knowing that I picked the right thing. I love the shiny Christmas lights set up everywhere (especially the ones in malls!), the specials on TV, the soft, classic carols on the radio, even the more religious themes like the nativity sets and the cute little cherubs that seem to pop up this time of year (and I'm not even that religious at all, even if I do celebrate Christmas!).
The one thing I don't like about Christmas is the financial stress! I don't have a job and I have a very small allowance, so around this time of year I always bug my poor parents and neighbors to see if they have any work I can do for money so I can get nice presents for everyone! But it's all worth it on Christmas day. :)
I received and gave my first present of the year today. A friend of mine and I agreed to swap gifts today, so we exchanged presents today! I got very shiny clip-in bows (what's better for winter than shiny things?), a Hello Kitty Pez, and very pretty ivory fuzzy earmuffs! I was so happy! I gave my friend a small stuffed hamster (since she has a hamster) and a pink pearl necklace that seemed like her style. She loved both presents and even said the hamster looked like her own (I didn't know what her hamster looked like so I was very excited about that!) and she had several outfits she could wear the necklace with! I was so happy she liked it and can't wait to give more gifts! :)
So, sorry about the more personal nature of this post, but Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to you all! I hope whether you're with your family, your friends, or riding solo, you all enjoy yourselves and enjoy the season! :)

Pink hair!

Lately, I've had a bit of an obsession with pink hair.
I'm not sure what, exactly triggered it (okay, maybe it had something to do with reading Lolita Charm :P), but recently I've been yearning to dye my own hair that cute color. I don't know why I want it so bad; I don't think it'd be great for my complexion (I'm a teenager so naturally, I have some break outs now and then!) and I don't really have too many clothes that would match it too well (though I do have a couple of natural-coloured wigs that would fix that and an increasingly pink wardrobe...) and people keep telling me not to dye/bleach my hair since that's bad for it and what if it looks bad, because then I can't put it back?
Then I came to a shocking, yet glaringly obvious realization I've been denying until now:
I don't care.
I've been wanting to dye my hair for a while, but have been unable to due to my parents. But, now that I'm a bit older than when I started dressing "crazy," my parents seem to care infinitely less about that kind of thing (maybe they've finally gotten used to my crazy? xD). Even if other people insist that I'd look horrid in pink hair (other people being certain girls at my school, mostly constantly clad in Uggs and North Face jackets with jeans on a daily basis), I honestly think I'd look smashing, if you'll allow me a bit of narcisissm. ;P Maybe not in ALL pink hair, which I probably would look a bit weird in, but with pink streaks, or something.
So, I've decided that come March (around my birthday!) I will go to get my hair bleached blonde and have the hairdresser dye the tips of my hair pink, so I don't screw anything up! I'm waiting until March because by then my hair will be longer (it's a pretty pathetic length now and I'd like to grow it out so I can actually do hair styles beyond "simple bob" with it), and hopefully by then I'll actually have a job (though I'm not sure of my chances of that since nobody wanted me even around the holidays because I don't have any job experience ): It's a bit of a vicious circle, though- I can't get hired because I don't have job experience, but I can't get job experience because nobody will hire me. But, I digress...)
So, now I can't wait until March! Who know what'll happen until then- maybe I'll even end up changing my mind after all- but until then, I'll probably dream of pink hair every night! :)

Lolita meme!

I just found this meme on EGL, and since I'm a meme nut I figured I'd give it a shot! :) Apologies if you don't like these sort of posts; I promise I'll try to limit the amount that I end up doing ^^;

(Screen-
name and DOB, please tell me these~.)
I usually go my mintysheepdog online, though I'm trying to change it into something else just because I hate that screen name ^^; I'm not quite sure what, though, other than maybe my name or initials, but that would be lame.
(height, weight, clothing size and shoe size)
I'm five foot four, 135 lbs (a bit curvy, I know :) ) and I'm a size 9.
(why did you start to dress lolita?)
I started in lolita when I was a raging weeaboo because I associated it with anime, but thankfully before I could splurge on any lace monsters my tastes changed when I learned what real lolita looked like, and now I wear it because I think it's so over-the-top and super-feminine and princess-like. I find all those things quite beautiful.
(which style of lolita do you like)
I love hime lolita, but also classical lolita and less-OTT sweet lolita.
(express in your own words, the ideal your above answer)
I like soft pinks with lace gloves, extravagant fabrics and an overall rich look. I'm definitely not into the super-bright neon prints that AP has, though I do love sugary carnival as an exception and I'm in love with their teddy bear prints and Twinkle Mermaid.
(Do you have piercings? Where?)
Unfortunately, I only have two piercings, one on each ear. ): That's so boring, isn't it?
(Which brands do you like?)
I don't really prefer just one brand, as I tend to favour individual pieces, but I love Baby quite a bit, Innocent World is an old favourite of mine and certain pieces by AP hold my interest.
(Which are your favourite clothes you wear?)
I don't have anything too nice now, but I have a Bodyline AP replica jsk that I love but don't wear nearly enough (the lace is so soft and amazing!) and my one piece of brand (my Baby bunny muffler that I named Fresa and wear like every other day in the winter :D)
(9) ロリィタ友達は何人くらい居ますか?(how many lolita friends do you have?)
I don't have any lolita friends but I have a goth friend who has shown interest in gothic lolita and sometimes dresses in what appear to be lolita-inspired clothes. None of my friends hate lolita, though, and I feel so lucky just for that. :)
(What do you love most about lolita?)
I just love how classy it looks, especially since most over-the-top eye catching clothes I see are rather cheap or obviously made just for the purpose of attracting attention (ie almost everything Hot Topic puts out)
(What do you hate about it? Pet peeves??)
I would say I hate the cost, but if it didn't cost so much the quality probably wouldn't be anything near what it is! So, I'd have to say what I hate the most about lolita (and this is going to sound awfully mean) is the fact that since it's closely associated with Japan/anime, a lot of weeaboos are into the fashion. (I'm not going to lie, I'm somewhat of a weeaboo myself, but I can't stand the more obnoxious ones...)
(Magazine you read?)
KERA, Fruits, Gothic & Lolita Bible
(Headdresses, bonnets or ribbons/katsushya?)
I love the looks of bonnets but I don't know how they'd look on me. ):
(Yes to Drawers/Bloomers?)
Yes! I think they're just so cute for lounging around the house, in addition to being that extra layer so you don't accidentally flash somebody. I would like to make a pair myself so I don't have just my ill-fitting Bodyline ones (100 cm waist my ass! I have a 76cm waist and these things hardly fit!)
後ろで結ぶ派?(do you tie headdresses at the front or at the back?)
The front looks better on me, personally.
(Who is your favourite band/type of music?)
I love Kanon Wakeshima, since the cello playing mixed in her music is so pretty and beautiful!
(What is your phone ring tone~?)
Deck the Halls! Can't wait until Christmas!
(Do you go to concerts in lolita?)
I honestly haven't gone to a concert since I was 11. ^^; Just not my thing.
(For people who attend concerts: Do you headbang there?)
(What colours do you like?)
I don't have a particular favourite, but I do adore navy blue, lilac, light pink, chocolate brown and mint but only if it's paired with brown or pink.
(What are your hobbies?)
I like writing short stories, listening to classical music, collecting teddy bears, playing video games, reading X-men comics, sketching, acting, singing, and someday I'd like to ice skate more and hopefully get into ballet!
(If you have any favourite perfumes, please tell us.)
I'm not picky since I have an awful sense of smell, but I tend to favour floral scents.
(Is there anything you are careful of in lolita?)
I try to be more careful with food, so as not to spill anything on my dresses, and sitting down so I don't take up more than one seat. ^^;
(Do you have any favourite haunts to go to in lolita?)
Not in particular
(25) 週に何回くらいロリィタですか?(how many times a week do you dress lolita?)
Two or three times, at most. I'm very lucky to have a school with no dress code!
(Please tell us an embarrassing story when you were a beginner in lolita.)
I thought La Carmina was some kind of lolita god and continually praised her makeup as "beautiful." Now I know, it just... isn't D:
(27) アナタの今の髪型と色は?(Your current hairstyle and colour.)
A long dirty blonde bob, which I'm going to grow out and maybe dye either darker brown or blonde.
(What is your lolita history?)
I discovered lolita when I was a weeaboo at 12 through cosplay.com, I believe (oh the shame!), and didn't start wearing it until I actually knew and loved what lolita really is when I was 14. Now that I've lost weight (the healthy way!) and started actually taking care of my appearance like lolita inspired me to do, I feel that I'm an actual lolita now at 16.
(Do you store your clothes in a special place?)
I have a special section of my closet dedicated to my lolita.
(Did you ever think about stopping Lolita? What was the reason?)
Well, not really, since I've just actually started. ^^;
(What is your motto?)
"You're not overdressed; the world is under-dressed for you." And yes, I totally stole that from Lolita Charm, because I don't really have a motto of my own. xD
(Your dreams of the Future?)
I'd love to become a translator and one day travel all around the world to the places whose languages I know wearing lolita (so, China, Russia, Japan, France, Saudi Arabia, etc)
と思う有名人の方はいますか?("This person is so perfect for lolita!" - Do you ever think that about certain celebraties?)
I don't really think that about celebrities, but I have quite a few friends who I think would look so darling in a lolita dress. :)
(Any products/items you have with a fond memory?)
Well, I was wearing Fresa once and somebody asked me why I was wearing a dead cat. xD That's not necessarily sentimental or anything, but it was hilarious, espeically since the person asking was a very intelligent history teacher and Fresa's a (fake) rabbit anyhow.
(What was your first item?)
A pink AP replica Bodyline jsk. I got totally ripped off on it (payed $74 for a $45 product! D'oh!) but the lace is so soft and it's just so nice that it was totally worth it. :)
(Have you got a pose for photos?)
I usually wear toned down lolita out since I don't really have the wardrobe to wear full-out lolita at the moment, so the only time I've been stopeed for photos was at Anime Boston.
(本・雑誌・CDなど何でも)(What is your heart's bible? [book/magazine/CD/etc])
Kamikaze Girls, all the way! Also, I know this sounds really weird, but the manga +ANIMA always inspires me, especially the character Nana. I know it's not related to lolita at all, but Nana is so cute and there's so a sense of child-like wonder and magic through out the whole manga I can't help but associate it with lolita!
(38) 一番高い踵の靴は何cmありますか?(what is the best cm for heels?)
Lower heels, so like 2 or 3 cm.
(Do you wear tiaras?)
I'd love to wear them more often, but I only have a couple of ridiculously gaudy tiaras that I wear on my birthday. xD
(Do you think you want to try prince style? What kind of prince? Ankoku-kei [Gothic/dark prince]? Or "prince on a white horse" style?)
I don't feel like I'd really suit prince-style, so no. But it is such a beautiful style...
(What types of lace do you like?)
I'm not too picky, though I'm not a huge fan of the types of laces AP has been using; I much prefer soft cotton lace.
(Do you own a doll? Does it give you fun, childish feelings?)
I don't own a doll , but I have several teddy bears that I love. :)
(What is in your lolita bag?)
My lolita bag is also my regular bag (a My Melody brownxpink bag) so just normal stuff- wallet, chap stick, IDs, etc.
(What is your favourite flower?)
A red rose! They look so lush and beautiful, almost like velvet!
(Right now, what is your favourite accessory?)
I've honestly been wanting a cake hat for the longest time now. xD
(Please reccommend us some cosmetics.)
I can't really say, but I've heard the foundation at 100percentpure.com is great! My cosmetics are all crappy drug-store cosmetics, unfortunately. :(
(With Eye-tape your eyes look like a Doll's! What eyelashes will you wear?)
Huge fancy eyelashes from Forever 21!
(Your eyemakeup for these eyelashes?)
Some white eye shadow around the corners.
(Red Lipstick? Blue? Black? Pink?)
Nude is my favourite shade, over all of these.
(Or which nail polish do you choose normally?)
I have a shade of nail polish called China Doll that's just a simple shiny nude that I love.
(Have you ever changed in a train station bathroom?)
No?
(What do you think of 'twinning' and 'triplet' lolitas?)
I think they're adorable! Admittedly, I myself have a (fraternal) twin sister, and I'd love to dress her up in lolita some day, even though she'd probably be too chicken to actually wear it out. :P
(How do you keep in shape for lolita? Reccommend us something.)
I walk to and from school whenever possible (a 20 minute walk) and try to eat healthy.
(Do you keep calm when by yourself in Lolita?)
I've just stopped caring what people think, so I just kind of do what anybody else in normal clothes does.
(How much do you spend per month on clothes/accessories?)
Pretty much all that I earn that month (so like $40 xD) goes to clothes, except around Christmas time when I start saving up in October to buy presents. Also, all my baby sitting/odd job money goes into my savings account for when my sister and I go to NYC when we're 21 and have an epic trip in which we pretend we're obscenely rich and stay at a nice hotel/eat at fancy restaurants/shop at designer brand stores.
(Was there a time lag between you knowing about Lolita and dressing?)
About a year, due to lack of funds.
(What is your most expensive Lolita item?)
Sadly, my $74 Bodyline jsk.
(It takes a lot of money to do Lolita. How do you save?)
I just use my allowance on clothes on the EGL comm sales.
(Just a little secret here...How much have you spent so far on Lolita, roughly?)
Pfft, probably like $300, $400 tops. Not that much at all, considering I've been into it for like 2 years. xD
(Is there a Brand you want near where you live?)
I'd kill to have a Baby store in Boston or even NYC! (which is four hours away from me)
と思う店はありますか?("Man, what a rip-off!!" Have you ever thought that about a store?)
The AP prints that get really jacked up, especially Milky Planet since it's been proven that it's actually rather cheap.
(Do you shop online? If so, put the good & bad points here to advise others.)
I like being able to see the measurements as a number and being able to easily compare pieces from different stores, but I hate not being able to see the physical garment/try it on! Also, shipping is always such a pain!
(You can say if you want, but is there a Secret person/shop that you have ordered a dress solely for you from? [I guess commissioned/replicated])
No, though I'd love to someday.
あのブランドのあの商品ありますか?("I can never have that/see that happening!! But I will always want it!!" Is there a brand you think this of?)
Bunny bear bags, all the time. xD
(What do you do with the clothes you don't want anymore?)
I honestly just donate them or throw them out, since none of the clothes I own have like any resale value at all.
(What is your most recent purchase? [Even non-lolita])
I got a bunch of cute bows from Forever 21 a while back, but I've been saving for x-mas presents.
(Is there an item which you love that you can't buy/seem to find?)
Every time I have almost enough money to buy a bunny bear bag, Bodyline will restock/have a sale/get some new fantastical item and I end up buying from them! D:
(What do you think of people who only wear lolita to concerts?)
I don't really care, as long as they're adhering to the basic rules and not calling it lolita if they aren't.
(69) すっぴんロリィタさんをどう思いますか?(what do you think of lolitas without makeup?)
I think makeup can make most everybody look a little bit better, but if you don't want to wear makeup then that's your decision and I totally respect that. :)
(Another lolita is wearing the same coordinate/clothes as you!! What do you do?)
Let's twin!
(What age should you stop Lolita?)
Whenever you don't like it/when you feel like you're too old to look good in it. That being said, just the other day I saw a picture of a 58-year-old aristocrat-loli woman and she looked so beautiful! I honestly think a huge part of her beauty was the fact that she looked so comfortable in the fashion, though, like a rich woman who dressed like that everyday.
(When do you think you should graduate from Lolita? And why?)
I think if you have a lot of responsibilities in your life and lolita is interfering with them you should stop, but come back if you have time (ie, children, working) Lolita is beautiful and hugely important to me personally, but if I were to get pregnant I most likely wouldn't have time to take care of the baby and spend hours doing my hair/makeup/whatever in the morning in addition to a job, so I'd probably have to give up loli until my life was more balanced and the baby didn't need me with them all the time.
というロリィタファッション上の注意はありますか?("You should stop that!!!>_<;" What must you not do when dressing lolita?)
I feel like people shouldn't talk about normal people like they're aliens or disgusting when they're wearing lolita, just because people are staring. I've heard some girls make some off-handed comments about how people were just jealous because everybody else was disgusting when people were staring in a mall, which I thought was totally unnecessary. Face it, lolita is different, people are going to stare. That doesn't mean their jealous, or that they all want to dress differently, or that they don't look fine themselves.
(A lolita should be 'this'! What do you think that should be?)
My personal image of an ideal lolita is an educated young lady with all the "proper" skills a lady should have (ie, training in dancing, calligraphy, instruments, speaking, etc) but still smart and independant and able to take care of herself in the modern world. But really, I'm open to any ideals.
(Excluding #73, is there anything you should deffinately not do in lolita?)
Don't do any thing you wouldn't do in normal wear for the sake of appearing ~edgy~ or to ~break the loli stereotype~, because most likely you'll just look like a jerk.
(What do you think of men in Lolita?)
I'd say if they want to dress in lolita, go for it!
(Did you change yourself for dressing lolita?)
Lolita inspired me to lose 45 pounds, take better care of my health and just overall become a better person. I can't thank it enough for that.
(What does your family and surrounding people think of you dressing lolita? And do you accept it?)
I'm very happy and lucky to say that my friends and family are very accepting and like lolita, except for my mom, who does accept it but doesn't really like it.
(How do you dress Lolita in the boiling mid-summer?)
Honestly, I don't. I just stick to shorts and tanktops on those particularly hot days. :(
(80) 学校・職場などにロリィタで行っていますか?(have you gone to School or Work in lolita?)
I go to school in lolita all the time!
(How do you dress normally?)
I usually just wear a t-shirt and a sweatshirt with a skirt and tights with some boots in the winter (a very specific formula, I know xD) and a tanktop or shirt with shorts in the summer.
(Do you think twice about buying second-hand clothes?)
If it weren't for second-hand clothes I would have an evern smaller wardrobe.
(Do you have a boyfriend? [or husband?] Does he understand Lolita?)
Not now, no.
(Please tell us your ideal man.)
I want a man who I can have intelligent conversations with, who knows I'm an equal but honestly I also want a man who can spoil me now and then. I don't particularly care about looks, but my ideal man would at least attempt to upkeep their looks (ie, maintain their weight best as possible, brush their hair, take showers). The number one and most shallow trait I absolutely would need in a man, though, would be that he accepts lolita. It's just such a huge part of my life that I can't imagine staying with a man who doesn't like lolita. It doesn't particularly matter if he accepts it, I don't think I could bear to dress up in lolita and go out with him if I knew he was secretly thinking the whole time that I looked ugly.
(What Lolita has left a big, shiny impression on you so far?)
I love Miss Caro of fyeahlolita and Victoria Suzanne of LC, they're both just such inspirational women!
(Have you made your own clothes? What are they like?)
I tried making fleece hats in 8th grade. It didn't work out.
(Have you made your own accessories? What did you make?)
See above.
(The best item you have made! What is it?)
I haven't really made anything on my own that I still wear, though my good friend knitted a scarf that I absolutely adore!
(Please say your most perfect Lolita coordination you wear.)
I have a soft pink sweater that I like to wear with a Merry Sweets Castle replica with some accesories like a rose necklace and a pearl bracelet thrown in.
(Do you admire someone? What are they like?)
There's a boy I admire right now who's just so smart and funny I can't help but swoon when I see him, cheesy as it is. ;)
(One day I will go on a date with that person. What would you like to wear for him?)
Probably casual lolita. He already knows I wear lolita (pretty much everyone in my school does ^^;) so I'd probably just dress like myself
(If you want one, what type of store would you open in the future?)
I'd like to open a doggy daycare or a dog hotel specifically for female pampered dogs, with lots of bows and pink every where! But I don't think there's a particularly large market for that, except maybe in Hollywood.
(Your eyes get attracted inadvertantly to something. What is this motif?)
Anything with Teddy bears or mintxbrown or pinkxbrown makes me so happy! I also like unicorns and soft floral motifs quite a bit, and tulle and faux furs are my favourite fabrics.
(Would you dress your child in Lolita?)
Only if they wanted to, though I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't "take advantage" of them before they could talk and dress them up in lolita-inspired clothing!
(How much do you spend on one outfit?)
As little as possible without the quality dipping into subpar, honsestly.
("This is Lolita!!" Please say what you would say this about.)
Lolita is, for me, a fashion style, so something lolita would be lacy, with bows and an adorable motif.
ロリィタ以外でそんな格好ありますか?("I have always wanted to try that once!" What, in the Lolita world, have you wanted to try wearing?)
A bonnet, so badly!
(Look at you in Lolita. In one word/phrase, how would you express your style/image?)
"Incomplete;" "Not yet able to afford lolita" xD
(What is your ideal of Lolita?)
Just something that adheres to the rules, isn't overly-simplistic but also isn't too OTT. (Sorry, OTT sweet lolita; I love you but that's personally not my ideal!)
(Thank you for taking this Baton!! Please state your thoughts on it!)
It was very... long xD

Photo dump!

I find so many pictures while looking online, so I thought I'd like to share some with you guys! I am ashamed to admit, but unfortunately I've lost track of the source of most of these pictures, so if a picture of your's is here and went uncredited (or you know the source!), please give me the source and I'll gladly add it! :)

An adorable picture of a lolita-inspired Pokemon (I think a Clefairy?) I know it's not strictly lolita, but I can definitely see the inspiration and the whole scene just looks so comfortable and cute!

An adorable loli-squirrel! :D I believe I got this from the loli_macros community on livejournal, but I can't seem to find the post now. D:

(from lolita-charm.blogspot.com) I love this picture because of how this girl looks so out of place but she still looks so great! Also, carousel hats are just amazing so even if I could probably never work it, I think it looks so cool on other girls! :) I have to admit I mostly prefer/wear classical lolita, but I've always had a special place in my heart for super-ott deco sweet lolita, even now that it seems to be the trend to hate on them.

I love this little kitten! :D He looks so cute, like a miniature cheshire cat! (Well, that is obviously the look they were trying to go for :P)

Such a cute bunny! :D I used to have a similar picture to this one, except with a rat instead of a bunny, but I can't find it! D: I know a lot of people don't like rats, but I have a wonderful, absolutely adorable rat named Harry and I don't know why people hate them! They're like miniature dogs! But, I think the majority of people (especially lolitas!) love bunnies so here's a super-adorable picture of one and his "long lost brother!" :P

(from lolita-charm.blogspot.com) Hot chocolate and warm cookies fresh out of the oven are always the best winter snack! Besides, winter is rapidly approaching us in the US and images like this get me yearning for those long nights watching Christmas movies or, occasionally, the stars outside, with a cup of warm hot chocolate!

(from aestheticlolita.blogspot.com) I do love mori girl, especially in the autumn, and I think this picture perfectly captures my personal image of a mori girl. A young maiden peacefully sitting in the forest reading before going to sleep in her home... just beautiful! The lantern, blanket and pillow just make this all look even more cozy!

Well, I suppose that's it for now. I hope you enjoyed this post and loved these photos, and once again I apologize for not having the sources on these!

Lolita-related links

I just realized that when I wrote the introductory post I promised lolita links at the end, but completely forgot! I'm so sorry! Things like that just slip my mind sometimes...
So, to make up for that slip-up, here's a slightly longer post with more links and descriptions of the sites the link will lead you to:
www.lolitafashion.org -A very nice website with basic descriptions of all lolita styles. I'm not sure how the forum is, though.
community.livejournal.com/egl -the main base for the western lolita community. I've found the memories on that particular community to be so helpful!
community.livejournal.com/daily_lolita -A community where lolitas post their everyday outfits. Some of the people on there might not be the BEST examples of lolita, and there's an issue on there where it seems like quite a few people are afraid to give honest criticism ("honest criticism" being pointing out an issue or flaw with an outfit in the nicest way possible and possibly suggesting a way to improve it, not bitching somebody out for wearing cat ears)
community.livejournal.com/egl_comm_sales -Another livejournal community where lolitas sell their used stuff for a discounted rate (though lolita does have a VERY high re-sale value so don't expect dirt-cheap prices). Lately, however, there had been an issue with scammers.
www.avantgauche.co.uk -Now, this is probably outdated, but I remember when I was first getting into lolita this site helped a lot, especially the store-link section.
www.babyssb.co.jp -A nice Japanese name-brand store that sells lolita clothing (and my favorite brand!). Baby, the Stars Shine Bright also has a very cool pirate-lolita subline, Alice and the Pirates.
www.bodyline.co.jp -Sort of like the Wal-Mart of Japanese fashion, Bodyline is fairly cheap though quite a few of their items are of questionable taste and quality, though occasionally you can find a nice piece there for a good price (and they have gotten especially good about quality in recent years!). However, there is a sort of negative stigma with Bodyline clothing among lolitas, though I honestly could care less about it.
lolita-charm.blogspot.com -One of my favorite blogs from a sweet lolita.
fyeahlolita.blogspot.com- Another one of my favorite blogs, this one from a more classical/gothic lolita.

If you are curious about lolita, or haven't heard of any of these sites, please check them out! They're all great! :)

Slut Shaming

In addition to being a lolita, I am a raging feminist. When I tell people this, they tend to raise an eyebrow, eyeing my frilly dresses and cutesy accessories. Most people don't question me to my face, though I can tell what they're thinking: "How can THAT be a feminist? She's the girliest thing I've seen all day!" I know, because one or two people have asked me basically that after I told them this. My response is this:"I dress for myself, not for any man. I wear these clothes because I like them, not because that's what society tells me I should look like. After all, that is what TRUE feminism is, in my opinon: the idea of a woman living out her own life doing whatever she'd like, not necessarily with a significant other in the equation, without being ridiculed or looked down upon (Of course, men should be able to do the same thing, but they have far less problems with sexism). If that "something" I'd like to do with my life is dress up covered head-to-toe in ultra-frilly clothing, and I support other womens' rights to do what they would like with their own life, I am a feminist."(That being said, has anybody ever actually met a man off the street who finds lolita attractive? The only people I can think of who would find lolita immediately pretty are creepers, and who honestly thinks anyone would dress up for them? :P)That being said, when I say a woman should be able to do what she wants in life, I mean EVERYTHING. So, one thing that makes me extremely angry is slut shaming. I've heard so many so-called "feminists" scoff at a woman's outfit because it is tight-fitting/revealing/etc, which I could understand if said woman was at a school or another place where you are required to cover up, but whenever I hear this uttered it's usually at a place where it is acceptable to show some skin. Worse yet, if a woman gets raped and she was dressed like a "slut," then some people might say she deserved it because she was "asking for it"! Saying ANYBODY deserves to be raped is the worst thing that a person can say. NOBODY "asks" to be raped, and likewise NOBODY deserves it. If somebody is sexually harrassed or raped, it seems like if the woman was doing ANYTHING wrong (including wearing "slutty" clothing) then the people who actually committed the heinous crime don't matter anymore, because it was ALL the woman's fault. Whenever I hear somebody victim-blame like this, I just want so say "NO. Go back to step one and TRY AGAIN you sick bastard." Saying this will immediately make me lose all respect for you.So, next time you go to call some celebrity or that girl on the beach a "slut," just remember that you are setting back feminism, and you really ought to be ashamed of yourself if you consider yourself a feminist. If women can have the right to dress frumpy, or over-done, or in pretty much anyway, why is being "slutty" such a bad thing?

Lolita on a Budget

A lot of lolitas, myself included, have to shop on a budget. Being a younger lolita, I have a very limited income (just my allowance and whatever I can get from doing the occasional odd job!), so I have had to find ways to buy lolita on a very limited budget! Naturally, instead of buying a closet full of brand, I've had to buy all off-brand clothes with just one or two brand accessories thrown in, like my Baby the Stars Shine Bright muffler (which is the cutest thing ever!). Still, even off-brand clothes can get rather pricey if you shop online, as you have to factor in shipping and lolita-specific clothes are usually pricey in the first place. So, I've compiled a list of tips for shopping for non-lolita specific items when you're just shopping around:
Look for full skirts!
Specifically, full enough to hold a petticoat. Also keep in mind that the skirt should be around knee-length, and made of good quality materials (In fact, those are my "three rules of lolita"- Full skirts, knee-length and high-quality materials. But more on that later). But what if you find a skirt that looks great, but isn't the right length? Or a skirt that's just too simple? Which leads me to my next point...
Learn to sew, if even just a little bit.
Mainly so you can modify your clothes a bit. I personally have two success stories of finding awesome clothes in a store and modifying them to fit lolita better. One was a gingham skirt from Wal-Mart (gasp!) that was full enough on it's own and the perfect length for lolita, but unfortunately didn't have quite enough details on it for my taste. Since the skirt was only $2, I purchased two of the same skirt and used the fabric from the second skirt to make bows and ruffles to tack on the first skirt. The end result was a nice, casual country loli-esque skirt that is actually pretty full on its own. The second garment I modified nicely was a red dress also from Wal-mart that had a lovely, frilly top, but the bottom was just too long and looked extremely awkward. This one was in a way easier to modify, since all I wanted to do was shorten the skirt length. So, all I did was cut the skirt to just below knee-length, hem it, and use the excess material to make matching bows! The dress is also quite nice for casual lolita wear, so I wear it to places where I wouldn't want to wear my "proper" lolita clothes (read: Bodyline!).
If it's not lolita or can't be made lolita, don't buy it.
Of course, it's not like you can't buy any "normal" clothes ever again, but I found it was helpful when I was first starting my lolita wardrobe (which, mind you, still needs quite a bit of work!) to try to withhold from buying anything that I couldn't use for my loli coordinates. This way, I was able to afford on my shoestring budget a few basic things that couldn't be bought in stores (bloomers, a petticoat, etc) and still buy quite a few loli-esque skirts and blouses, leading to my wardrobe which can be easily passed as lolita. Saving money in general is a necessary skill for anybody who wants to be able to wear lolita regularly, which is the subject of the next tip...
Learn money-saving skills!
I'm not going to lie, I'm the worst when it comes to impulse buys. I'll see something totally useless in a store (like hamburger earmuffs), think it's just the coolest thing ever and buy it, only to never use it ever! However, when I decided I wanted to wear lolita I learned to control this. I learned to stop myself before I buy something and think, "Is this something I really want? Will I use it regularly?" This also helped me save up the money necessary to pay the ridiculous shipping from Bodyline for my "nice" loli clothes and also helped expand my wardrobe.
Still, don't be afraid to buy accessories.I hate to admit it, but before I started wearing lolita, I only dressed like a boy! It wasn't like I hated fashion or anything, but no American fashion I'd ever seen was extravagant enough to catch my interest (except for anything at Hot Topic, which I liked for about half a year in 8th grade but quickly gave up when I discovered I just didn't feel comfortable in tiny skirts). So, when I did start my never-ending quest for a lolita wardrobe, I didn't really have much of anything at all that could be incorporated into a lolita wardrobe. This is where my impulse buying came in handy. I'd go to Forever 21, see a headbow or a cute necklace, and buy it at the drop of a hat! My accessory collection increased exponentially in a short time, which is good because now that I've "trained" myself I can't just go and buy a simple necklace without feeling bad for not thinking things through!
So, that's about all I have to say for shopping non-lolita specific items on a budget. It can be rather challenging, and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't prefer a wardrobe full of brand (or even just replicas!) as opposed to my wardrobe of all off-brand and Bodyline, but in a way it's rewarding to know that even though you don't have a real job, you were still able to look like a lolita, you just tried. Good luck, fellow poor lolitas!

New blog!

Hello! My name is Kaley! Some of you (though probably very, VERY few) may remember my old blog, frillyparadise.blogspot.com . Now, what's the story, you may ask? Why would I start a blog and then a new one just right after I started actually updating? Actually, the answer is very simple, if a bit embarassing. I found that after about ten minutes I didn't really like the name "Frilly Paradise." This is probably because I'm one of those people who doesn't plan ahead for these sort of things so I just kind of made crap up when they told me to come up with a blog name. Still, I attempted to continue with that blog, convincing myself I'd warm up to the name, but it's just... not working out.
So yes, the stupidest reason of all time for starting a new blog: a name change! Since this is JUST a name change and I don't really have much on my old blog right now, what I'm going to do is add all the old posts from that blog to this one (so like, two :P). If you read my old blog at all (probably not because I did NOTHING to promote it xD), then you know the drill. If not, then welcome!
In this blog, I will discuss many things (including some personal affairs should anything interesting happen!). However, most posts will revolve around my all-time favorite topic-- lolita fashion. Now, I don't want to go into a whole "lolita fashion for dummies" post, so if you honestly have no idea what lolita is, or are picturing it as a fetish thing (protip: it isn't), then please visit some of the links I'll provide at the end of the link to get an idea of what lolita is! It is truly a beautiful fashion and well worth a visit to any of those sites! I will probably also get into other fashions that relate to lolita (ie, mori girl, fairy-kei, aristocrat, kodona), though those will probably be more introductory posts for people who haven't reallly heard of those fashions, as I myself still have so much to learn about all those adorable fashions, including lolita to an extent!
Based on the name, you should be able to figure out that I am also a raging feminist, even if I do insist on dressing in frilly things as often as I can (which some people seem to find anti-feminist, for some reason :/). As such, this blog will also have quite a few posts on feminism. If you are a man and reading this, though, don't worry! I am anything but a man-basher. I don't think men are entirely responsible for every trouble women encounter- just the few bad ones who probably will not be reading this blog. I believe feminism is about women (and men!) being able to choose what they want in life without being ridiculed or hurt for their beliefs.
So, for anyone who sat through this entire introductory post (get used to it; I tend to write way too much!), thank you, and I really hope you continue to read and enjoy my blog!
