So without further ado, here's day two of the challenge: 10 things I love in Lolita!!

.) I know I said this yesterday in the "Lolita bubble" post, but I just can't emphasize it enough- I just love love LOVE animal prints!! (Also as was said yesterday, I also love animals... in fact, I just had to re-type the last few sentences because my little beaglier finds it funny to bang her head against my keyboard to get attention. xD She's such a sweetheart!!)

.) Handmade pieces!! I know brand names are pretty big now, but some of my favorite pieces I've seen were handmade. I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it, but I once saw an absolutely adorable gray jsk made with a thick winter material and with the black silhouette of a fawn appliqued on it. I wish Innocent World sold something like it, because it was amazing!! Also, Oli of the Lemontree recently had a post in which she wore an adorable handmade polka dot skirt, which paired with all the accessories she wore just showed how even a simpler handmade piece can be made simply amazing with the right accessories!! Speaking of which...

.) Accessories!! I just love Lolita accessories. I like the more classic-looking headbows and  rings that Innocent World makes, and BABY and AP's sweet plastic jewelry are all simply darling!!

.) The community! For some reason I've never quite been able to fully grasp, the Lolita community has a bad rep of being a bunch of "drama llamas." I just don't agree with this. Almost all of the girls I've met have been nothing but sweet, and honestly the only time I ever see a person being attacked is because of their crappy attitudes- and if they're being attacked based on how they dress, they usually have a poor attitude to go with it. On the flip side, if a girl is attacked for how she dresses but shows willingness to learn and takes the criticisms with grace, people usually stop attacking her and, in fact, praise her for her amazing attitude. I just love seeing cases like that- it's the best of the saying, "Kill them with kindness!", except in this case everybody's happy in the end. :)

.) The blogs! I read so many Lolita blogs- too many, in fact. Lolita Charm, F Yeah Lolita, Her Curious Elegance, Starre Princess (which isn't really Lolita but hime gal is related to Lolita and Mana often incorporates Lolita dresses and accessories into her outfits)... I love all these blogs and more!! I totally admit, when I'm bored in my media class, I often times sneak onto some Lolita blogs to read the archives... don't judge me! :P

.) The diversity!! With most fashions, like, say, punk there's usually one accepted general aesthetic. With Lolita, however, there's something for everybody- for girls who like cute things there's sweet of course, then there's gothic for those more interested in the darker side, classic for girls who enjoy the more refined things in Lolita or women who like Lolita but want something more mature, casual for girls who don't feel like going all the way... I feel like Lolita is definitely the most diverse fashion I've been involved in, and I love it!!

.) Sweet prints! I know a lot of people don't like them- super tacky toys marching across the hems of your skirt, deer playing on the bodice, candy castles all around- but I just adore sweet prints. They're just so interesting to look at, and even if a lot of "normal" people might think they look stupid... well, "normal" people think a lot of things look stupid, and super watered-down Lolita.

.) Gal makeup in Lolita!! I know lots of people don't care for gal-style makeup, but I think it works wonderfully in hime Lolita or OTT sweet!! It's a very fresh and interesting twist to the usual light makeup in Lolita. Actually, really and kind of well-done dramatic makeup in Lolita is super cool. :)

.) The modesty!! As you all might know, I'm very much anti-slut shaming, so I'm not about to gripe about "Oh, all Americans dress like hookers and I just want to be a ~*~pure innocent maiden~*~. No, I actually admire those girls who "dress like hookers-" no matter what people say, these "sluts" aren't really accepted by most of society, so it actually takes some guts to dress like that. It's just that I personally feel more comfortable covered up- I own a few shorter skirts, but whenever I wear them I find myself constantly pulling at the hem because "oh, what if somebody can see my underwear?!" (Even if my friends and family are constantly assuring me I'm fine, and that it wouldn't even matter because I'm wearing opaque tights underneath... I'm just paranoid xD) So, while I salute those girls who can wear short skirts and tight tops in public and not give a crap what people say, I myself feel more comfortable in longer skirts. :)

.) (Most of) the public reaction!! Now, I don't mean this in an attention-seeking sort of way- oftentimes, I feel put off from wearing Lolita in public places because of all the stares and the occasional negative comment (besides school- people are so used to my craziness that I hardly get a sideways glance anymore!!). I know I can't pull on a skirt full of cakes and cupcakes and expect NOT to be started at, but in my ideal world I would be able to wear Lolita to the mall without being stared at or noticed more than any other person. To me, I find it beautiful, and that's enough. But still, some of the comments I've gotten have just been SO amazing!! I can't lie, even if I would like to wear my frills in peace, I feel happy every time somebody calls me cute, or an elderly woman get excited because I have petticoats, or, my favorite, when little kids think I'm a princess!! (Me, a princess?! :D) Recently, a friend of mine told me that a friend of hers who I have not met was inspired by what I wear and has recently been drawing girls who "look like me." Knowing that I inspired somebody just makes me feel so warm and fuzzy... it's just such an amazing feeling!!

I apologize for the long, drawn-out answers, but there's just so many things I love about Lolita!! Tomorrow's prompt, things I hate about Lolita, will be a bit more challenging, but I'll try my best!! :)
