Style update: Sugar Rock!!

I was SO bored today, being trapped at home and all, so what did I do? I dressed up, of course!!
I tried some Purikura! What do you think??

Outfit rundown:
Jsk/headbow: Dream of Lolita (Angelic Pretty replica)
All jewelry (bracelets, rings, necklaces, earrings): Offbrand
Socks/wig/shoes: Bodyline

I actually wore this outfit to test out my wig- I FINALLY got around to cutting the bangs today!! Honestly, I just did it as practice (as I'm getting my hair dyed pink later this August so I wasn't too worried about destroying the wig) but it came out MUCH better than I expected!! So of course the first thing I did was try it on with a myriad of bows :3
I was going for a sort of sugar-punk look with this out fit. I was pretty pleased with the result!! I actually like the way this jsk looks without a blouse, but tbh I'm not too fond of jsks with blouses in the summer at all (yes, even if it's not "proper" Lolita); it just gets too hot for blouses! @_@ Honestly, I don't think I would've been able to wear this outfit out because the wig, however light it is, was quite stifling...
So this is what I wore while sitting around today!! As usual, critique is welcome! :)

The Winter of Questionable Fashion Choices

A while ago, the lovely Victoria Suzanne made a post about her dreams for the upcoming winter. In the post, in addition to sharing her own vision, she encouraged the readers to come up with their own "fairy tales" as well. Well, I am now in a similar position as she was then- even though I was SO looking forward to summer and spring, I'm now sick of it and want it cool down again. Why?
As stupid as it may sound, the reason I want it to cool down right now is because I miss dressing in layers. I know, I know, I'm a materialistic bitch, why don't I just go outside and forget about fashion for a while, etc etc. The fact is, even in New England not only does it get too hot to dress up, but it really feels too hot to do ANYTHING outside (at least for me; I'm a total wuss in the heat).
So, while the weather has been peaking 100 outside and I've retreated inside for the past couple of days, I've been dreaming up a look for the next winter. Last winter, I was all about princess-y things, with a touch more of classic than sweet. I still love that stuff, but, being an America teenager with an appropriately short attention span, I'm rather tired of that look. Thus, I've decided to channel some of my new loves (Fairy kei, decora, and OTT sweet) into my new planned look for this winter. If all goes well, it should be super colorful while everyone else in New England is clad in black and brown, it should have TONS of layers (even more than I usually wear in Winter, and I do wear a lot of layers!), and it will probably end up breaking quite a few rules in the Lolita section (I'm LOVING these Marie the Cat ears I saw online recently...). Due to the quirky and often just strange pieces I plan on adding to my wardrobe, I plan to call this upcoming season the Winter of Questionable Fashion Choices™ .
Here are a couple of pieces I desperately hope to add to my wardrobe that perfectly go with this theme:
These cat tights from ManiaQ are so crazy it's adorable!! I have a soft spot in my heart for cats (though that can go for just about any animal really :P ), and these kitties are simply adorable!! The only problem is, the tights are a little expensive for a broke high schooler like me ($40 a pop!) but I still might have to save up any lawn mowing money I make this summer for these ;P (yes, I mow lawns for money, having no other skills or places nearby who want to hire me, especially with all the competition I have with kids my age... oh suburbia!)
Of course, this girl's whole ensemble is absolutely adorable, but really what I'm looking at here is the carousel hat. I would like nothing more than to wear a carousel/cake/tea cup hat at some point this winter! I just love those things all so much; they're so ridiculous it's great!! I know the lovely Mana of Starre Princess has been open for commissions for a while, so I might just have to ask her about making me a carousel hat... :D
Bear hoodie! Unfortunately, it is from an ebay shop, but from what I can gather the shop sends you decent products and you get what's pictured (so if the item had crappy lace, that's what you get, but this has no lace so I needn't worry :D ). I'm not sure whether I'd want one in black or white, but either way I'm adding pink accents once I get it!! (I also love the pink colour way, but unfortunately, as I'm dying my hair pink later this summer, I'm afraid to get TOO much pink tops as I could end up accidentally wearing all pink like I did this vacation, except I'd have pink hair too so I'd just look weird :x ).

Barbie Ring and Pinkie Pie necklace, both from Pretty Pop Designs!! I actually just ordered both of these, so hopefully they'll arrive soon! I'm especially excited for the Pinkie Pie necklace; I'm actually planning a trip to Jo-Anns so I can get the materials to make a skirt based around it!! (I also plan on getting back into sewing this winter, as the DIY aspect of Fairy Kei doesn't seem TOO difficult, especially the Nile Perch-style stuff!)

I could go on (and on and on...) about my plans for this winter. To be honest, Pre-Christmas winter is actually my favorite time of year, so of course I always plan EVERYTHING about it (for example, I've already planned what I'm getting a couple people for Christmas! :D ). If any of you guys are weird like me and already have a plan for the upcoming season, please do share!!

Style update and Mall of America haul!!

Hello! I just got back from vacation yesterday, so while I am happy to be back and blogging I'm a bit exhausted at the moment (17 days of trekking around the country with your family will do that to you) so please bear with me; it will take a bit to write up a full report >.>
However, I do have a couple of little somewhat vacation-related things I'd like to share with you!! :) First of all, one of my favorite things I did over vacation was go to Mall of America in Minnesota. It was awesome, I definitely recommend going if you ever get the chance (though that might be the mall-lover in me speaking :P ). So, here's my haul for that day:
(ignore the notebook in the background; that's old. I didn't notice that was there until I was uploading this pic :P )
From the Sanrio store: Sugar Minuet stickers, Charmmy Kitty backpack, bow pen, nail art supplies.
Forever 21/Love 21 (F21 accessory/beauty store): Sailor jacket, shimmer powder, eyeshadow palette, makeup puff, eyeliner, bow and cupcake earrings.
From Icing: Pink and lavender hair extensions (SO regretting not getting mint >.> )
From the Disney Store: Marie Plush (I love love LOVE it, so soft and cute!! :) )
From Journeys: Pink Converse
From Claire's: Pink OTK rose socks
From Wall Drug (not part of MoA obviously, but I wanted to include it in here): Black star necklace

I... may have gone a TEENY bit overboard :P Nonetheless, though, I was pretty proud of myself! I didn't have that much money to begin with, and I still had some money when I was done, so I thought I stretched my money pretty far. My favorite things I got would have to be either the Marie Plush (SUPER cute and cuddly :D ), the eyeshadow palette (the colours are gorgeous and it was like $6!), or the sailor jacket (it's a really nice weight and reminds me of Victorian boarding schools xD ).
However, when I got home, I found out that while we were gone I had received a package! As it turned out, it was my Sugary Carnival replica!! :D I ordered from Taobaospree, and I would definitely recommend ordering through them if you decide to order from Taobao! My agent was very polite and nice, and even though DoL was very slow to respond to HER (apparently this replica was VERY popular), she still responded quickly and politely to all my questions, and kept me updated on my order at all times :)
Here's a quick outfit shot showing off my order!
Dress/headbow: DoL
Tights: Forever 21
Cardigan: Marshalls (I didn't want to wear it, but I have REALLY bad sunburns on my shoulder and it looks like I was in a fire >.> )

I'm pretty happy with the dress itself, but there were a few flaws (most notably the lace; I was so looking forward to having pony-printed lace then they had the lace from their Milky Planet replica on it instead!! D: ), but overall I think it's a nice weight and it fits very well :)
I promise I'll try to write up the vacation post asap; I apologize for the delay!!

Apologies, again!!

Sorry for taking such a long unannounced hiatus!! I thought I'd have more time to post after finals, but it turns out that even after school ended my life was super busy D:
I'm actually posting this from Yellowstone, part of the 17-day vacation my family is taking!! This is the only campground we've stayed at thus far that has had decent wi-fi, hence why I'm posting now. After this vacation is over, I promise I'll turn over a new leaf and post more, and kick off this promise with a post full of pictures of all the beautiful things I've seen (not all related to fashion/feminism, but definitely some things I'd love to share with you guys!!).
For now, here's a few of nice pictures:

Mixing Styles

For the longest time, people have been mixing other alternative styles with Lolita. Fairy Lolita, mori/Lolita, gal and Lolita... I'd be lying if I said I didn't love each and every one of these styles with a passion. Mixing styles can lead to all sorts of new ideas and amazing coords never before seen in Lolita, even if it's something as small as wearing a Jesus Diamante necklace with an otherwise totally Lolita coord.
However, what about more "American" counterculture styles? What about scene, emo, and all those styles that Lolita seems to continually snub?
A while ago, a girl posted to EGL with some Polyvores for emo/Lolita. The coords this girl came up with were... questionable, to say the least. The girl's attitude when she was told so, often in the nicest terms possible, was even worse. However, during all this drama, many girls kept saying how emo/Lolita could never, ever work. Why not, I ask? Emo, while it doesn't share as many elements with Lolita as fairy-kei or hime-kei, does have a couple of elements that could work into Lolita. Maybe voluminous dark hair with various bow clips decorating it, with a darker dress adorned with a more playful print (I'm thinking skulls with bows)? Okay, that wasn't the best image possible, but I'm sure that with enough creativity plenty of experience with both emo and Lolita, somebody could make it work. It wouldn't be everybody's cup of tea (including mine), but as long as it follows the rules of the fashion, is well put-together and the wearer them self has a good attitude toward any negative critique they would most likely receive, I see no reason why emo and Lolita could never be mixed.
However, realistically I'm pretty sure this will never happen. I'm going to be brutally honest here (and I do mean brutally)- the majority of the members of styles like the ones I just mentioned tend to be younger, thus immature and ignorant. Every time I walk into a mall that has a Hot Topic while wearing Lolita, I get negative comments (often shouted from afar, where I can't reach them with my parasol) from packs of teens clad in black with poofy, huge hair. I admit, this has made me somewhat biased against members of these styles. When I meet somebody who identifies themselves as an emo/scene/etc kid online, I'm skeptical of them until they earn my trust (which again, I admit, is not often). However, are the STYLES themselves really so bad? Not necessarily. I may not be crazy about the clothes, but I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the hair (my guilty pleasure :P).
A while ago, my friend decided that she's determined to make Cyber Goth and Lolita work. Like many, I was skeptical at first. Cyber and Lolita? I thought, Those styles are very different from each other, not to mention Cyber isn't exactly my favorite in the first place...
But then she showed me some pictures she'd drawn of her ideas for the style, and my faith in the idea was immediately restored. The style had the typical Cyber dreads in black and pink, with those Cyber goggles adorned with hearts. The girl in the picture had piercings on her nose and lip (I do love piercings in Lolita, I admit!), and was wearing a dress that looked like it was designed by AP's evil twin, adorned with skulls wearing bows and black cupcakes. She was carrying a bat purse similar to the one MMM released way back, and had stompy goth boots on (another one of my guilty pleasures!!). It not only followed all the rules of Lolita, but it was very cute and well put-together.
I want to see this style work, but once again I've heard girls say that Cyber/Lolita will never work in real life. Honestly, I can't wait for my aforementioned friend to create the outfit she's drawn (she's working on her sewing skills in hopes of creating such an outfit someday!) and show everybody that yes, those darker styles that aren't necessarily everybody's cup of tea can work in Lolita. Hopefully, she'll be able to do so soon :)
Now, keep in mind that this girl is fairly well-versed in Lolita-- she's read the Bibles, she frequents EGL, and she has a growing wardrobe of her own-- she knows what she's doing, and being a part-time goth as well she's used to negative critiques and receives them with grace, so before you run off and try to make a crossover style of your own with Lolita, be sure you know at least the basics and be prepared for any negative critique that will probably come (as the majority of the Lolita community is just as skeptical, if not even more than I was). But, even so, who says it HAS to be Lolita? If you create a coord with Lolita in mind, but you know it doesn't really truly resemble the fashion you love, call it what it is- Lolita INSPIRED. It's not that hard, and you won't get jumped on for trying to label your creation for something it's not (which, for people who truly make an attempt to follow the fashion, can be a bit grating). Thanks for reading, and good luck for all you crossover hopefuls!! :)

BRB!!

Sorry for randomly taking a bit of an unannounced hiatus!! I've just been LOADED with school work lately, what with finals coming up and my teachers trying to fit some last lessons in. I will resume the 30-Day Challenge (and regular posting!) within the next week or so, hopefully!
(Does this mean that I failed the challenge? :P )
